Cartel de la presentación de Asturix 2

Wednesday 10th March 2010 at 18.00, a lecture on Asturix will be be held in the Assembly Room EUITIO (Salón de Actos, Escuela Universitaria de Ingeniería Técnica de Informática de Oviedo, University School of Technical Engineering in Computing) at 18,00 hours. It will be followed by an installation workshop. Entry is free and everyone is invited to attend to learn more about Asturix, an operating system which is simple to use and to understand and an alternative to other proprietary systems like, for example, Windows. The lecture will be given by Luis Iván Cuende after an introduction by José Emilio Labra, Director of EUITIO. Both general and technical aspects of Asturix will be explained as well as the development of complementary projects.

Asturix 2: Better and better every day PDF Print E-mail

During the last few days many events have taken place including the official presentation of Asturix 2 in the Escuela de Ingeniería Informática de Gijón (the School of Computer Engineering of Gijón), in the Área TIC sessions held in the Auditorio de Oviedo, a lot of interviews and news on the radio, television and newpapers all of which have caused widespread interest.

In the Community web (asturix.org) we are trying to arrange all the recordings in as ordered a form as possible,

I think the best way to find out what is going on in Asturix at any time is to visit our Twitter account.

Our thanks, and we believe, on behalf of of the Free Software Community, to all those media which have contributed to spreading this phenomenon. Thanks specially to Onda Cero Radio, La Nueva España, Radio Televisión del Principado de Asturias and Televisión Española.

Asturix has been in news recently and will continue progressing with new events such as on 10th March at 18.00 in the Escuela de Ingeniería Informática de Oviedo (School of Computer Engineering) where there will be a surprise at the end.

The fact is that Asturix is increasing its presence daily both in our own community and outside it and the number of users and satisfaction is continually growing thanks to improvements in new versions as well as support from the Forum which now has received over 500 messages.

With the launching of Version 2 of Asturix Desktop and Business for 32 and 64 bits a big step has been taken towards version 3.

If all this has occurred during version 2, simply a transition version, think of what will happen with version 3! Obviously many more developers ready to collaborate are needed and they are arriving. New initiatives which had not previously been thought of such as the translation of the web into English and Asturian are already under way.

The Asturix train is once again ready to move off again with greater strength and is ready to welcome aboard anybody who would like to contribute to making this project better for everyone.

Official presentation of Asturix 2 PDF Print E-mail

Asturix 2 is now available and we trust it will prove to be a great version even though it is a transition to Asturix 3 when, as we have said before, Asturix will really take off.

The official presentation of Asturix 2 will be held on Thursday 18th of February at 19:00 in the Sala de Grados in the Escuela de Ingeniería Informática de Gijón, in the Campus de Viesques.

Red IRIS network down PDF Print E-mail

On Thursday 18th February 2010 a serious Hardware problem occurred in the Red IRIS infrastructure causing a failure in the Mirror Service. While this is being dealt with, our alternative Yestilo and Asturhosting servers, which can be found in the Downloads section of the upper Menu, should be used.

We are very sorry that this problem should have occurred on exactly the same day as the official presentation of Asturix 2.0. However, we are informed that such a serious error lasting for so many hours on RedIRIS, one of the best mirror servers in Europe, has never happened before.

We have noticed a very high download demand during the last 40 hours and this is continuing and we are therefore grateful for users` patience in a process which would be very much faster through Red IRIS. We hope that the service will be renewed as soon as possible.

Asturix back on the attack PDF Print E-mail

After the Christmas break and to start the year in the best way possible, we are pleased to announce the start of development of Asturix 3, which will be the version where Asturix forges its own identity both as an Asturian and Spanish Distribution.

Asturix 2, a transition version will be be released, which will include small improvements but will be eventually superseded by Asturix 3 towards the end of the year.

To give a foretaste of Asturix 3, it will be based on Linux Mint. We are also working on the update of version 1 of the Desktop release and the update of the Business edition to version 2.
